These knobs will tarnish in time as part of the ageing process but can be polished time and time again if you want to achieve a more contemporary finish. The centre door knob is fitted to the external face of the door by way of the provided bolt and as well as being aesthetically pleasing it is strong and sturdy enough to be used to assist in pulling the door closed.
